19-year-old Cory Tomascoff has been creating films for 7 years.
Growing up in an artistic family and with a natural inclination toward art and drawing, Tomascoff was eventually drawn to filmmaking. It soon became apparent that this initial pastime was more than a modest hobby, compelling Tomascoff to see filmmaking as a lifetime career.
Tomascoff says, “The process of making a film, no matter what role I play, is the only thing in life that I actually love to do. I love mixing various media into one cohesive product which has the capacity to move an audience, to make someone laugh, cry, or cringe.”
Kick starting this newfound fervor, Tomascoff and friends created various short spoofs, most notably of James Bond, X-Men and Men in Black. Genre-wise, his films moved from comedy and drama to, more recently, documentary. This represents his aspiration as a filmmaker to “mix aesthetic filmmaking with purposeful and persuasive filmmaking which has a clear goal and intent.”
The culmination of this aspiration resulted in his most recent short documentary, Among The Giants. This has received notable attention, being an official selection at six major film festivals across the United States: the San Francisco Documentary Film Festival 2009, the Reelabilities: NY Disabilities Film Festival 2010, The Indie Fest, the Oxford Film Festival 2010, the California Independent Film Festival 2010, and the Sacramento Independent Film Festival 2010.
Tomascoff aspires to continue his directing and cinematography pursuits professionally.
When he’s not behind the lens, Tomascoff enjoys skiing, Italian cuisine, and spending time with his two Maine Coon cats.
